Choosing a Good Jeweller
Canadian Jeweller Magazine published the following, which we think is great advice on "How to Choose a Good Jeweller":
- Ask family and friends to recommend a jeweller who they've had a good experience with.
- Choose a jeweller who's been in the community for several years. It will probably be a family run independent jeweller.
- Choose a jeweller who is willing to take the time to review the 4C's with you -- the four characteristics that determine a diamonds value and therefore its price. It's important that you feel comfortable with the jeweller and not rushed through the buying process.
- Stay away from stores that appear to deeply discount merchandise ("80 percent off") Remember there are no deals in the world of diamonds -- or jewllery for that matter. Like any other purchase, if it sounds to good to be true it probably is.
- Ask for a bill of sale for your files and a name of a reputable appraiser.
- Remember, the vast majority of jewellers are hard working experts who value their reputation and would do nothing to risk damaging it.
